2012 Castello di Spessa Friuli Isonzo DOC $16.99
Castello di Spressa is made with local star grape Friulano, in the tiny, world-class appellation of Isonzo. An excellent alternative to Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, it offers lush, delicate stone fruit and floral aromas, with subtle notes of almond. The crisp, elegant palate is brimming with pear, cantaloupe, and apricot, again accented by those cool, classic nutty notes. Made for sipping with Italian delights like smooth prosciutto e melone, grilled Branzino drizzled with lemon; or linguini ai frutti di mare, with fresh clams, mussels, scallops and calamari.
2012 William Knuttel Russian River Pinot Noir $16.99
Like the fencer on the label, this gem from the superb 2012 vintage shows finesse and balance. Aging in fine French oak (a third in new barrels) imparts spicy oak notes to the lush fruit flavors. Look forward to aromas of ripe red cherry, pomegranate, clove, violet and more. On the palate, you'll be rewarded with smooth layers of rich red and black fruits, wrapped around a core of toasty spice. Since Pinot Noir is one of the wine world’s most food-friendly grapes, your pairing options are wide open.
